  • By far not only free worldwide accomodation, but a tool that enables you to truly discover a country from within, by getting you in touch with open minded locals willing to help, show you around and offering you their own home.
  • A nice family run campsite hidden in the hills of Umbria.
  • This is one of the only two campsites in Rome, Italy. I would define it as a bungalow plantation, as there are more than 1000 of them, but the atmosphere of the restaurant and bar is good. The bungalows have air conditioning and there is everything you could possibly need. You will meet a lot of nice travellers here. It's the closest and cheapest accommodation in Rome, starting at only 8 Euro per night and being at about 20 minutes bus ride to the center.
  • I haven't visited this campsite, but it looks like it has charm. It is located in a nice place in the countryside North of Rome, at about 10 Km from the center, but it’s well connected. A peaceful place to rest and a good base point if you are on a bike.
  • A lovely small, family run medieval villa with a spectacular view over ancient Tuscan village San Gimignano. An isolated and safe place on a plot of private land big enough not to hear anything but birds. Fantastic breakfast overlooking a unique view. Quite unforgettable.

So whether motorcyclists are planning their own Big Trip across Africa, Alaska, or Asia, or just enjoy reading about other people's adventures, this handbook is guaranteed to illuminate, entertain, and above all, inspire.
  • "Mix a biting British sense of humor with a Yamaha motorcycle and you get this adventure-filled story about an intrepid woman facing her destiny across the Americas, one rain-soaked, bug-infested, low-quality-taco-filled mile at a time." -- Wendy Dale
  • Unafraid of a challenge, Lois Pryce began the kind of adventure most of us could only ever dream of. She put on her sparkly crash helmet, armed herself with maps and a baffling array of visas, and got on her bike. Destination: Cape Town - and the small matter of tackling the Sahara, war-torn Angola and the Congo Basin along the way - this feisty independent woman's grand trek through the Dark Continent of Africa is the definitive motorcycling adventure.
  • In January 1952, two young men from Buenos Aires set out to explore South America on a 500cc Norton. One of them was the twenty-three-year-old Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara.
Written eight years before the Cuban Revolution, these are the diaries of Che Guevara, full of disasters and discoveries, high drama and laddish improvisations. Touring through Argentina, Chile, Peru and Venezuela, his greatest concerns are where the next drink is coming from, where the next bed is to be found and who might be around to share it. Within a decade Che Guevara would be a household name. His trip might have been the adventure of a lifetime – had his lifetime not turned into a much greater adventure.
More recently made into an Oscar-winning film starring Gael Garcia Bernal, ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ is an extraordinary account of a hero in the making.
  • This is the adventurer bible. It contains everything you could possibly know about travelling in the Sahara desert and it goes well beyond that, covering all the topics you can think of. Nearly 700 pages of invaluable information and advice.
  • In the late '70s Ted Simon rode 63,000 miles over four years through fifty-four countries in a journey that took him around the world. Through breakdowns, prison, war, revolutions, disasters and a Californian commune, he travelled into the depths of fear and reached the heights of euphoria.
He met astonishing people and was treated as a spy, a welcome stranger and even a god. For Simon the trip became a journey into his own soul, and for many others - including bikers Charley Boorman and Ewan McGrergor - it provides an inspiration they will never forget.
